Frequently Asked Questions
.
What is a Child Contact Centre?
A Child Contact Centre is a meeting place where children of separated families
can enjoy contact with one (or both) parents, and sometimes other family members
in a comfortable and safe environment.
Both parents may wish to visit the Centre in advance of the first contact visit. This can be arranged
What is a supported contact visit?
Supported contact is the situation where the non resident parent (The parent with whom the child does not live) has contact with the child/children under the support of another person. It is the responsibility of the supporter to ensure the child's best interests are protected whilst on a contact visitation with the parent or other person. This may be court ordered or by parental agreement.
Will the contact support be neutral?
The supporters are independent and impartial. Their focus is on the child, not the dispute of the parents or other family members.
What will it cost?
At the moment the service is free.
How do I access the Service?
Most referrals are made through the court or social work department but self-referral is also available.
Please note we have the right to refuse or cancel a service once it has begun.
See the Contact section for ways to access the service.
How long does a referral take?
It depends. The length of the referral process depends on parental co-operation, the judicial process and the availability of a place at the centre. There is no set time for how long the process takes from the point at which you make initial arrangements to the contact taking place.
Where is the Centre?
Armagh Child Contact Centre is based at the First Presbyterian, Lecture Hall College Street Armagh - just off the Mall
The lecture Hall is on the ground floor.
Free parking is available on the Mall, Note some spaces are time limited.
What kind of people run the Contact Centre
You'll be in safe hands. Child Contact Centres are run by a management committee and trained staff. All staff/volunteers are available for assistance but there is no close observation, monitoring or evaluation of individual contacts/conversation.
What happens when you arrive?
The volunteers and staff responsible for running the centre will make you feel welcome and answer any questions you may have.
We believe children have a right to know and maintain a relationship with both their parents.
Also everyone involved in the contact needs to work together to meet the children's needs.
Do I have to meet my ex partner?
Not if you don't want to. Parents are responsible for their children at all times while at the Centre so you will have to wait
with your child until your ex partner arrives , however centre staff can deal with the handover of your child so you can avoid meeting your ex partner.
